Rapparees Battle Hard Against Breaffy Despite Missing Key Men
Senior Men’s Championship – St Mary’s, Galway
Breaffy 10–4 Galway City Rapparees
Galway City Rapparees produced a spirited display against one of the country’s most experienced Senior Men’s sides on Sunday, with Breaffy eventually coming away with a 10–4 victory in St Mary’s.
The result only tells part of the story, with the Rapparees missing four massive players in Jay Hall, Ili Tuimauga, Cathal Creaven and Vishal Pathare. Losing that level of experience, power and defensive quality would test any squad, but Galway still competed strongly throughout the innings.
Breaffy showed exactly why they remain one of the top sides in the country, punishing small mistakes and taking their scoring chances clinically. However, the Rapparees continued to battle hard and never let the game drift away completely.
There were plenty of positives for the Galway side despite the defeat. Ryan Dennis worked tirelessly as bowler against a powerful Breaffy batting order, while Greg Mannion again led from the front defensively. Alberto Scotti, Tomás Kenny, Rory McGarvey and Dave Gannon all made important contributions in a reshuffled line-up.
The Rapparees continue to gain valuable experience at Senior level, and with key players expected back over the coming weeks, there is a growing feeling that this squad can compete strongly against anyone in the division.
The Galway side crossed the plate through Ryan Dennis, Greg Mannion, Dave Gannon and Ajay Kumar, with the team continuing to show resilience and attacking intent throughout the contest.
