Give GAA Rounders a Try – Galway City Rapparees Open Day

Ever wondered what GAA Rounders is actually like? Maybe you remember playing it in school, have seen some of the recent All-Ireland coverage, or simply fancy trying something completely different.

Galway City Rapparees are holding an Open Day on Saturday, 11th October from 1pm to 3pm at Coláiste Muire Máthair – St Mary’s College, Galway City.

And absolutely no experience is needed.

One of Galway’s fastest-growing sports clubs

Galway City Rapparees have grown rapidly since the club was established in 2021.

We now have more than 50 adult members, with Men’s, Women’s and Mixed teams competing across the GAA Rounders championships.

In just a few years, the Rapparees have become a multiple All-Ireland winning club, with teams progressing from Junior right through to Senior Rounders.

But while we love the competitive side of the game, that’s only part of what the club is about.

Rounders is fast, fun and social, and our membership includes people from all sorts of sporting backgrounds – as well as plenty who hadn’t played competitive sport for years before joining us.

Never played before? Perfect.

You don’t need to know the rules. You don’t need your own equipment. And you certainly don’t need to have played before.

The whole idea of the Open Day is to let people come down in a relaxed environment and see what the game is like.

We’ll introduce you to the basics of batting, throwing, catching and fielding, and you’ll get plenty of opportunities to have a go yourself.

If your last experience of Rounders was in primary school, you might be surprised by just how competitive and enjoyable the adult game is!

Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Rounders

One of the great things about GAA Rounders is the variety of opportunities available.

The Rapparees compete in Men’s, Women’s and Mixed competitions, meaning men and women can also play alongside one another on the same team.

Our members range from experienced athletes to complete beginners, so don’t worry about your standard or fitness level before coming along.

The Open Day is about trying the sport, meeting a few people and hopefully having a bit of fun.

Come and give it a go
