Founded in 2021 by Tomas Kenny, Gavin Mulhall, and Joe Naughton, Galway City Rapparrees emerged from a group of friends with backgrounds in Galway softball. Recognizing the potential crossover from softball to rounders, the team’s journey kicked off in impressive fashion. In their inaugural month, they clinched victory at the Junior Men’s Blitz in Dublin.
With a close-knit membership of 22 individuals, the club stands out not only for its camaraderie but also as one of the smallest GAA clubs in Ireland. The team comprises players from diverse corners of the globe, including the United States, Canada, and New Zealand.
As they reflect on their rapid rise and success within just two years, the impact of playing alongside close friends shines through. The team’s multinational composition enriches their experiences, and the unity they exhibit in victories and defeats has been a driving force. Some players even sacrificed holiday plans to ensure their presence at games.
Home games are held at Crestwood, generously provided by the Fr Griffins/Eire Og GAA club.
The team lineup includes Pakie Killilea, Greg Mannion, Rory McGarvey, Cathal Crevan, Tomas Kenny, Lorcan Carbin, Tomas Callanan, Ryan Dennis, Colin Flannery, Sean Breen, Jay Hall, and Mark Meyler. Guiding them are coaches Joe Naughton, Gavin Mulhall, and Eoin Wood.
